42-Year-Old Man Dead After 2 Skydivers 'Collided Mid-Air' in Florida

One person was killed and another was injured when both collided in Florida on April 1, authorities said.

The victim who died has been identified as Giulianno Scotti, 42, of Brazil, the Deland Police Department said in a statement.

The department said officers responded to the DeLand Municipal Airport just before 2:30 p.m. local time.

"The preliminary investigation revealed two skydivers collided mid-air," police said. It's unclear if both skydivers plummeted from the same plane or the altitude from which they both fell.

Responding units attempted "life-saving measures" on Scotti, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The victim’s body has been turned over to the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death," according to police.

The other victim, who has not been identified at this time, sustained minor injuries.

On his Instagram account, Scotti described himself as a “BRUS Pro Skydiver, B.A.S.E Jumper, Paramotor Pilot.” His Facebook page said he lived in Deland but was from Manaus, Brazil.

According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, the accident took place at Skydive Deland, which is located at the airport.

PEOPLE has reached out to the airport and the skydiving company for comment.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
