3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (May 17-19)
If you know one thing about Netflix, it’s likely that the streaming service has more shows on it than any one person could ever hope to consume. All that content is great (even if you didn’t know some Netflix shows even existed), because it means that there’s something for basically everybody on the streaming service.
When you’re looking for as how to watch, though, it can be a bit of a headache to actually find something interesting on the streaming service, which is where we come in. We’ve gathered three great shows on Netflix that you should make time for this weekend, and that cater to a pretty wide array of different tastes.
John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In L.A. (2024)

John Mulaney is one of the funniest people on the planet, and he’s also had an eventful few years. After spending time in rehab, he has emerged as a less high-strung, much more open human being who still finds a million different ways to be funny. Everybody’s in L.A. gives Mulaney a chance to flex those comedy chops as he hosts a limited run late-night show in which he explores the city of Los Angeles with many of the world’s funniest people, and also some experts on L.A.
Not every gambit that the show undertakes works, but Mulaney’s willingness to experiment is worth the occasional stinker, and the whole thing ends up being both funny and revealing. Also, he lined up a killer, and eclectic, slate of guests for the show, including the notoriously interview-shy director John Carpenter.

Pokémon Concierge (2023)

If you have children who love Pokémon or love it yourself regardless of your age, you’re likely to find a lot to love in the adorable series Pokémon Concierge. The show is centered around a Pokémon resort where humans are charged with finding ways to help Pokémon relax and recharge.
A refreshing change from most Pokémon content, this show is very relaxed, fun, and light on its feet — and it manages to make every moment feel special. Pokémon Concierge feels like a bit of an aberration for the world of Pokémon, but it’s one that it should lean into.

Maid (2021)

One of the best shows ever made about what it’s like to live in poverty, Maid tells the story of a single mother who escapes from an abusive relationship and turns to housekeeping as a way to stave off homelessness.
Featuring a charismatic lead performance by Margaret Qualley (Drive-Away Dolls), the show is unflinchingly honest about the harsh realities of living life paycheck to paycheck, and depicts poverty as a fluid state in a way few shows have been able to capture. Thanks to sharp writing and a focus on gritty realism, Maid stood out from the moment it debuted.
