28 Days Later Sequel to Recruit Marvel Director

Nia DaCosta is frontrunner to direct the upcoming sequel to 28 Days Later.

The director of The Marvels and Candyman is reportedly in talks to helm the second entry in Sony’s 28 Years Later trilogy, according to Deadline.

The first entry in that trilogy has already found its director: Danny Boyle. He helmed the 2002 original, and is returning alongside that film’s writer, Alex Garland, who has significantly raised his profile since through directing Civil War.

Developed by Sony Pictures, the 28 Years Later trilogy will reportedly form the third, fourth, and fifth entries in the long-running zombie series. With Garland penning the next two films, Boyle directs the first, and DaCosta directs the second.

But what about Cillian Murphy? The Oppenheimer Oscar-winner starred in 28 Days Later, and is in talks to serve as executive producer. If he is indeed linked to the project, there’s nothing stopping him appearing in it either.
