Spring break has sprung in the Sooner State, bringing with it a plethora of activities that can keep visitors and residents, youngsters and teenagers, families and college students entertained during their well-earned holiday.

From spring festivals and live music to art events and museum attractions, here are some special events happening across Oklahoma March 18-24 during spring break:

SPRING Move Your ScissorTAIL BLOCK PARTY

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 23.

Where: Lower Park, Scissortail Park, 300 SW 7, downtown Oklahoma City.

The free event includes yoga, Zumba, pickleball, boxing and HIIT classes on the hour, sporting and wellness vendors, a DJ, a blood drive, health screenings and food trucks, plus a free March Madness 3v3 basketball tournament.

OKC Zoo's Expedition Africa

Spring break hours: 6 p.m. March 18-22, with final entry allowed at 5 p.m.

The OKC Zoo's long-awaited 12-acre habitat Expedition Africa is newly opened. Expedition Africa is home to more than 60 species, including giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, honey badgers, lemurs and naked mole rats. It is the zoo's largest habitat expansion since it opened in 1902.

Visitors also can partake in the return of seasonal attractions like giraffe feedings, the Flamingo Mingle, camel rides and more, or tour in style by renting one of the new motorized Scooter Pals.

Three Sisters Celebration, Sulphur

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 19-23.

Where: Chickasaw Cultural Center, 867 Cooper Memorial Dr., Sulphur.

The free festival celebrates the changing of the seasons and planting of essential crops like corn, beans and squash. Activities include planting and cultural demonstrations, make-n-take crafts, food samples, Choctaw hymn singing, storytelling, an art market, movies in the Anoli' Theater and more.

OKC Home + Outdoor Living Show

When: Noon to 8 p.m. March 22, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 23 and 11 a.m. to p.m. March 24.

Designers and vendors will offer a plethora of ideas on how to improve homes and gardens.

38th Annual Red Earth Festival

One of the largest Native American cultural celebrations and art markets in the country, the long-running Red Earth Festival is moving from its traditional summer dates to a spring break time frame. The festival includes the juried art market, Native dance showcases, flute and regalia presentations, artist talks, documentary screenings and more. Festivalgoers also receive admission to the entire museum.

Spring Round-Up! at The Cowboy

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 18-21.

Where: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, OKC.

During spring break, The Cowboy is offering drop-in family-friendly activities that are free for members or with museum admission while supplies last.

Drake

When: 7 p.m. March 18-19.

Where: Paycom Center, 100 W Reno, downtown OKC.

The four-time Grammy winner will play back-to-back OKC shows on his 2024 "It’s All A Blur Tour – Big As The What?" tour with special guest J. Cole. Both shows are expected to be sold-out with about 16,000 attendees each night. It will be one of the biggest productions the arena has hosted to date, with almost 60 trucks and buses used to transport equipment for the shows. Downtown OKC businesses and fans should be prepared for large crowds of concertgoers.

Guthrie Renaissance Festival

When: 3 to 9 p.m. March 22, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 23 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24.

The event will feature jousting tournaments, raptor shows, food, art, Scottish and Native American games, blacksmithing demonstrations and other attractions from the Medieval and Renaissance periods.

Chuck Wagon Gathering, Kingfisher

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23.

Where: Chisholm Trail Museum, 605 Zellers Ave., Kingfisher.

The free event includes cooking demonstrations with food samples, wild West show performers, medicine man shows and live music from Kyle Dillingham & Horseshoe Road.

Spring break at Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum

When: March 18-24.

During spring break, the memorial staff is planning special tours, STEM activities and augmented reality experiences, plus a Ground Zero Rescue Dogs demonstration at 11:30 a.m. March 23. Activities and parking in the Memorial Garage are free with paid admission to the museum. Plus, teachers are invited to tour the museum for free with a guest through March 24.

Science Museum Oklahoma's Science Live!

When: Through March 24.

Just in time for spring break, the museum recently unveiled its newly renovated Science Live! auditorium that features a new interactive entrance, updated sound and light systems, large-screen monitors and enhanced safety features to accommodate more exciting interactive experiments and demonstrations. During spring break, the museum will host Science Live! shows at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. March 18-23 and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. March 24.

'Bug Squad' at Sam Noble Museum, Norman

When: Through April 28.

The University of Oklahoma's natural history museum is hosting a hands-on animatronic insect adventure exploring the “superpowered” abilities of bugs. Highlights include the Spider Web Escape area with a slide, the Ant Colony Climber and the Dragonfly Drone virtual flying experience.

Spring break at Museum of Osteology

When: March 18-23.

The skeleton museum will offer children's yoga, hands-on art activities and owl pellet dissections. Food trucks will be on site through the week, and lucky visitors just might meet the museum's cat, Sir Indiana Bones.

Spring break at Frontier City

The world-famous basketball innovators are bringing their 2024 world tour to downtown OKC.

Grand Lake State Park's Spring Break OUT!, Bernice

The four-day event will include twice-daily naturalist-led activities, including a nature hike, scavenger hunt, craft projects and more. The 11 a.m. programs are designed for younger learners, while the 1 p.m. sessions are aimed at older children.

Factory Obscura's Spring Break at Mix-Tape

Factory Obscura has big spring break plans around its permanent Mix-Tape attraction, which will be open extended hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 18-23 and noon to 8 p.m. March 24. Reservations are strongly encouraged, as capacity is limited.

The OKC artist collective will host a series of special events, including a spring-theme Craft Day at Mix-Tape from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19; Adult Night: Spring-Themed Craft Night from 8 to 10 p.m. March 21 for grown-ups 18 and older; and the outdoor Future of Sound Fest from 2 to 8 p.m. March 23 with performances on the hour by Psychic Baths, Moriah Bailey, Cheyanne Marie and more. In conjuction with the fest, a Spring Artist Market, featuring local art and handmade goods, also is planned from 2 to 8 p.m. March 23

'An Evening With Black Flag'

The punk rockers will perform their 1984 album "My War" in their first set, followed by the best of their catalog in the second set.

'Magnificent Beauty: Georgia O’Keeffe and the Art of the Flower'

The OKC museum's new exhibit features works by O’Keeffe and photographer Imogen Cunningham, who shared a fascination with flowers.

The museum also is showing through April 28 the innovative exhibit "Preston Singletary: Raven and the Box of Daylight." The Tlingit artist's glass sculptures are exhibited with immersive projections, video and sound to tell an origin story from his southern Alaskan tribe's culture.

Admission to the museum is always free for children and teenagers ages 17 and younger.

Myriad Gardens Spring Break Drop-ins

When: 10 a.m. to noon March 18-22.

The gardens are in bloom, and staffers are offering special drop-in projects for children ages 3 to 12 for a suggested $2 donation.

Oklahoma Cine Latino Film Festival

A program of the Calle Dos Cinco in Historic Capitol Hill, the 10th annual event promotes the Latino cultural impact on cinema, focusing on a unique mix of filmmakers, artists and film lovers at the heart of OKC's Hispanic community. The festival will include free screenings of films and documentaries as well as a filmmakers panel.

The fest will open with a ticketed red-carpet premiere event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 23 at the Yale Theater, 227 SW 25.

'The King of Pangaea'

For the first show of its 2024 subscription season, Lyric Theatre is continuing its long-running New Works Initiative by staging the first fully realized production of Martin Storrow's anticipated musical. The "fantasy musical memoir" follows 21-year-old Christopher Crow (Logan Corley) as he suffers a sudden, shattering loss and then travels to Pangaea, the imaginary island of his childhood, hoping to find a way to put the pieces of his life back together.

'On Golden Pond'

OKC's longest continually running community theater, the Jewel Box Theatre is continuing its 66th season with Ernest Thompson's poignant 1979 family drama, which he famously adapted into an Oscar-winning 1981 film starring Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda and Jane Fonda. Denise Hughes is directing the show, which centers on an aging couple who agrees to care for the son of their estranged daughter's new boyfriend.

Spotlight Saturday: Drop-in Photography, Norman
