After spending 21 years in prison, Alice Marie Johnson, a first-time nonviolent drug offender who was given a life sentence without parole, was pardoned by President Trump after Kim Kardashian advocated on Johnson’s behalf.

On June 13, 2018, the reality TV star finally met the 63-year-old grandmother she helped free.

Two weeks after Trump commuted Johnson’s sentence, West traveled to Memphis to meet the woman — and show her the magic of Snapchat filters.

In one video, Kardashian said, “Alice has never used filters before, so I’m showing her the ropes. Love you, Alice!” Johnson was sent to prison in 1996, 19 years before Snapchat introduced the filter options.

Both Kardashian and Johnson sat down with Today show host Hoda Kotb for an interview, which will air on Thursday.

Kanye West’s wife seems to be incredibly taken with her new friend. She said, ”I love this woman. I mean I already knew just by talking to you on the phone and just seeing you in videos, but I mean you are everything and more than I ever thought.”

And the feeling was mutual. Kotb revealed to Kim, “She’s like, ‘I’m ready. I’m ready to meet Kim. I’m ready to meet Kim!’”

Before her release was announced, Johnson wrote an essay for CNN that expresses her faith and her gratitude for the help she received: “Some refer to prison as a place where hope dies. Some days I’ve found that to be almost right. Each time that I’ve come close [to giving up], God has restored my faith.

“So when the unlikely voices of Kim Kardashian and Jared Kushner came together to shine a spotlight on my case, I could only thank God, for he works in mysterious ways.”
