The award ceremony hosted by Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose will be held on June 16.
The Broadway season has officially reached its climax: the 2024 Tony Award nominations have been unveiled.
On Tuesday morning, prior Tony winners Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Take Me Out) and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) announced the star-studded list of contenders who will be vying for trophies at the annual award show. Competition was stiff in a season with 36 Tony-eligible new productions, but a certain few titles managed to stand out and lead the pack.
Of the 15 new musicals angling for nominations, many traveled the book to movie to musical pipeline — such as The Outsiders, The Notebook, and Water for Elephants — while newer stories arrived with big swings, including the controversial Lempicka, Shaina Taub’s much-admired Suffs, and the ambitious Days of Wine and Roses.
Hell’s Kitchen, a jukebox musical with music from pop sensation Alicia Keys, is the one to beat, boasting 13 nominations including Best Musical and four acting noms.
Stereophonic, a captivating drama that tells the tale of a Fleetwood Mac-esque band, also scored 13 nominations, including Best Play, Best Score, and Best Orchestration. Five of its stars — including Will Brill (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Juliana Canfield (Succession) earned acting nods.
The critically acclaimed Merrily We Roll Along scored 7 nominations, including nods for each of its stars, Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez. Cabaret At the Kit Kat Club also sang its way to success with 9 nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical and a nod for Eddie Redmayne.
For the third year in a row, West Side Story star and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose will do the thing by hosting the show. The 77th Annual Tony Awards will air live from Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater on Sunday, June 16, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and Paramount+.
