Solange Knowles is continuing to live her best life her way: she's just deleted her Twitter account. The singer's last tweet before quitting the social media network Tuesday night was a shoutout to Takiyah Thompson, a 22-year-old who was arrested and charged with two felonies for taking part in toppling a statue honoring the Confederacy in Durham, North Carolina on Tuesday.

Video footage of Thompson tying a rope around the statue to help pull it down spread online; at a press conference before her arrest, Thompson explained that she and other protesters decided to take matters into their own hands after feeling like city officials were taking too long to do so themselves. “We are tired of waiting on politicians who could have voted to remove the white supremacist statues years ago, but they failed to act. So we acted," she said.

Solange is continuing to use Instagram, and explained in more depth why she decided to delete her Twitter on her Insta Story, citing recent news of the nation's racial upheaval as a large reason. "Been trying to study myself, been trying to practice self-preservation during this time," she wrote, "and not give racist ugly ass fuc bois who reek of citronella my energy so that I can preserve my spirit to perform this album."

She went to talk about her fears for her 12-year-old son, Daniel Julez. "My son's first day of school has been in the midst of seeing these bullshit images that still tell him this system was built to be against him," she said. "How mofos supposed to have a fresh start with education, seeing this shit?"
