Pro Tennis Player Cuts Her Hair Mid-Match

From Cosmopolitan

Typically, tennis players hit the sidelines to rehydrate, catch their breath, or regroup with their coaches. But yesterday, Russian tennis pro Svetlana Kuznetsova, 31, stepped off the court during the WTA Finals in Singapore with an entirely different agenda: to give herself a haircut.

By the beginning of her third set, Svetlana had had enough of her ponytail braid, which whacked her in the eye every time she hit a forehand, according to BBC Sport.

Instead of restyling her long braid into a bun to keep it out of her face, she set out to do what every long-haired woman has dreamed of doing in times of despair - particularly while working out. She eliminated the problem for good. And so she asked the umpire for a pair of scissors. "I thought, ’what’s more important? My hair, which can grow, or the match?’" she told BBC Sport.

Clearly valuing the latter, she used the scissors to halve her ponytail on the spot.

The trim seemed to be exactly what she needed. Svetlana won her three-hour match, later regramming the braid-cutting video above on her Instagram with the caption, “Sometimes you gotta do it not by best hairdressers and not at best time.” #NoRegrets.

Now that Svetlana is making international headlines for her hairstyling skills, she’s got an easy answer for the next time a sports reporter asks what she plans to do when she retires from the game. Anyone got scissors?
