It’s pretty unusual to see Zoe Kravitz without her typical long braids, which is why her latest hair switch up is insanely unexpected. The singer and actress, who’s basically had the same style since she stopped relaxing her hair a few years ago, debuted a blonde bob on Sunday, revealing her new look on Instagram.

“Blond like frank,” the singer and actress captioned the picture, referencing Frank Ocean and his new album.

Zoe’s latest hair swap is an unexpected choice for the singer, especially considering she’s spoken out in the past about the significance and deeper meaning behind her usual look. “I originally did them as a joke, like an ode to the ’90s,” she told C Magazine about her braids. “They aren’t some symbolic thing, but it still feels important, I think, to be a brown girl with natural hair. You see blond girls with the same hair in every movie.”

Although surprising, fans were still incredibly supportive of the Divergent star’s new look, commenting things like “you are so beautiful,” and “I dig it!” on her post.

The colorist behind the look, Daniel Moon, is well known for his seamless dye jobs, with brightly colored hair seemingly being his forte. One scroll though his Instagram account and you’ll spot tons of incredible color inspirations along with a few celebrity clients (like Nicole Richie) scattered throughout.

If you’re thinking about going platinum yourself, keep in mind that it can do some serious damage if not cared for correctly. Make sure to use a shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated to protect dyed hair. A great option is the Oribe Bright Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner ($44) since it provides added UV protection to the hair, which is known to dull the color.

We’ve reached out to Moon for additional information on Zoe’s new look, but until we hear back, here’s a few of our favorite products to keep blonde hair bright and healthy.
