I have acne and I’m not sure if I should try to cover it up with makeup or just leave my skin clean. What is the best way to wear makeup with acne?

Dear Nicole,

If you have acne, it’s best to see a dermatologist to get specific advice for treating it with your skin type. As far as makeup goes, stick to oil-free formulas that are formulated to correct skin tone and smooth out skin. Cover-up sticks are great for using directly on a spot.

I love wearing sparkle but it’s best to only wear it on two spots at a time—either your cheeks and nails or your eyes and lips. Try using pale or skin tone shimmer colors on your eyes, lips and cheeks. It is also fun to mix your shimmer with your moisturizer to give added highlights to your skin.

The best way to find the colors you should be wearing is to visit a makeup counter at your department store. The artist will be able to make the best recommendations for your skin tone. It’s always best to stick with sheer tones, they make it difficult to make any mistakes.
