Dear Bobbi,

Can you tell me how to stop my eyeshadow and eyeliner from sliding off? It never stays on my eyelids. My eyeshadow also comes off after a couple of hours. I’m a flight attendant, so my makeup needs to stay put for a really long time.

Thanks,
Anna L.

Dear Anna,

Excessive moisture around your eyes can come from too much eye cream, the natural oils in your skin, or a concealer or shadow that has too much moisture. To solve the issue of your makeup sliding off, you just need to make a few adjustments. Start by using only the smallest amount of light eye cream underneath your eye, and let the cream soak in fully before applying concealer. Use a heavier creamy or stick concealer formula and set it in place with a light dusting of pale yellow or white powder. To make your eye shadow last longer, lightly dusty your face powder on your lids before applying your colors. Another tip is to avoid cream based shadows and try powder shadows instead. Long wear waterproof gel liner should stay on all day, but you can also keep it in place by layering a powder shadow on top.

Dear Bobbi,

What’s the best way to hide under eye wrinkles? Is there a trick to applying concealer so that it doesn’t look dry under the eye?

Thanks,
Corinne

Dear Corinne,

It is all about finding the right eye cream. You want to look for a day-specific formula; your skin will absorb it better than a heavy night eye cream. A good cream will help plump up skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help your concealer blend more easily. If your concealer is too dry it will only enhance your lines, so look for a cream or liquid-based concealer.

Dear Bobbi,

I am a 50-years-young black woman with medium brown skin. I’ve tried just about everything to cover my puffy dark circles. Everyone in my family has them, and I’ve been told they’re hereditary, but I’d like to break the trend. How can I better bring out the beauty of my eyes?

Thanks,
Traci

Dear Traci,

Under eye circles on darker skin may have purple, green, or black tones in them. To counteract this, you will need a peach-toned corrector with a concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone layered on top. It is really hard to find the right color of concealer at the drugstore without trying it on. I recommended going to a department store and working with a makeup artist to help you find the right shades to counteract and brighten the area underneath your eye.
