You Absolutely Have to See These Braid Looks From Shani Crowe and Saint Heron

Who remembers that amazing hair moment singer Solange had on Saturday Night Live back in November? If you don’t, here’s a refresher: The younger Knowles sister wore a bejeweled net body suit, a white bralette, matching bottoms, and metallic silver booties. But the real MVP of her entire look was a dazzling braided headdress that resembled a fancy dreamcatcher. That essential accessory alone left us all wondering: Who exactly was the creator of that beautiful headpiece? The answer is none other than the braid queen herself, Shani Crowe.

Crowe, who hails from Chicago’s South Side, joined forces with Saint Heron to present an art exhibit, “Roll Back, Say That with Shani Crowe,” in New Orleans on Saturday. It was essentially a live version of “Braids,” which was originally a riveting photo project created in 2016 in which the hair artist created awe-inspiring African braid looks that sent social media users into a total frenzy.

“Love,” wrote one excited Instagram commenter about a photo from the exhibit. “Braids have always been works of art! I used to wear mine braided up all the time as a young girl.”

For Saturday’s live experience, models showcased five jaw-dropping braided looks that were solid confirmations of Crowe’s immense talent. Each style was creatively crafted and accessorized with everything from beads to African cowrie shells. The models wore matching khaki dresses along with big, bright-yellow fur coats.

The entire sight was conceptually enticing, to say the least. While we can’t predict when Crowe will reveal her next mane event, keep scrolling to enjoy these looks from her latest project.
