Yellow Blush Is the Latest Spring Makeup Trend on Instagram

Here's why you should experiment with yellow blush this spring. We swear it won't make you look sickly.

With highlighter shades starting to span the complete ROYGBIV spectrum, blush is often overlooked. People either skip it altogether, brush on a safe rosy shade or ride-or-die for Nars Orgasm. Let's be real, blush is just another part of our makeup routine that we all should be experimenting with. Why not try out some new hues? Lately, makeup artists on Instagram are making a pretty convincing argument for a certain one in particular: yellow. Yes, you read that correctly. We're seriously suggesting you try out yellow blush. It won't make you look like you have a case of jaundice. Trust. Instead, it's an unexpected way to play with spring makeup trends.

We recently told you all about how to wear yellow eye shadow. Brooklyn-based makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes assured us that the bright hue is indeed a universally flattering shade, and the same rings true when you're applying it to your cheekbones. Most of us already have yellow tones that naturally occur in our skin, so yellow blush just accentuates what we've got and gives our beauty routine a new brightening booster. (You can never have enough.) If you're still unconvinced, think of it this way: yellow is like peach or even brown's long lost sibling. The rest of your makeup can be in these tones or you can contrast it with red or blue.

As for actually applying the sunny hue to your face, makeup artists have been approaching blush with the same technique: draping. Rihanna's makeup artist most recently did this for the singer's Met Gala look. The OG contouring technique is from the seventies, and it involves bringing blush from the outermost corner of your cheekbone and temple downward toward the apple.

Because true yellow blush doesn't really exist at Sephora and Ulta just yet, you can sub in a yellow eye shadow. Dallas-based makeup artist Ash Meredith likes to sweep the Melt Cosmetic Eyeshadow in Neon{: rel=nofollow} along her cheekbones. There's also the M.A.C. Eye Shadow in Chrome Yellow.

If you want to ease into the look, you brush on a bit more yellow eye shadow than you usually would below your lower lids next time you wear yellow eye shadow where it's intended: on your eyelids.
