Working with Dark Eyelids

I’ve always thought it’s really beautiful when a woman has a lot of natural color on her lids. It adds that little bit of depth that most of us have to add with makeup. If you have eyelids that are a darker shade than the rest of your face, and you do want to apply eyeshadow, you have to approach it a little differently. Here’s how:

  • Avoid darker shades which will make your eyes recede.

  • Red or rosy shades won’t work with darker lids, the color combination will only make you look tired.

  • On days that you want your lids to look lighter and brighter, start by sweeping a yellow-based powder with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Apply white shadow if you have fair skin, bone shadow if you have medium skin, and a pale yellow if you have darker skin.

  • Lighter shades will work best for darker lids—a nude eye palette is a great choice. Cream, pale pink, and peach will combine with your lids to create a pretty, unique color.
