What’s With All The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Drama Today?

Every year there is endless hype around the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. They’ve created an irresistible formula that works: The buzziest musicians play their hits while some of the world’s most gorgeous women model colorful, eye-catching lingerie. This year everything seemed to be rolling out as planned. Rihanna, Selena Gomez, and The Weeknd were set to perform. They crowned Lily Aldridge worthy of wearing the two-million-dollar Fantasy Bra. Ten new angels were given the nod to walk alongside favorites like Behati Prinsloo, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Adriana Lima. The press on the models’ workouts, diets, and beauty secrets started hitting the web.
However, in the past couple of days there seems to be a roller coaster of highs and lows surrounding the show. It started with Gigi Hadid dropping to her knees and sobbing she scored her dream of becoming a VS Angel. The video quickly went viral. Today, Hadid had another reason to be thrilled, because it was announced that her BFF Kendall Jenner will be making her Angel debut (surely achieving #squadgoals).

But right after the Kendall news (timing is everything) People reported that Rihanna “had to cancel her appearance to finish work on her album.” Rihanna had played in the show last year, and was arguably the headlining act so the news came as a surprise. In her place will be British pop star Ellie Goulding. The Rihanna news is prompting speculation, along with comments from surprising corners. Jezebel just posted a deleted tweet from model Jourdan Dunn who walked the show from 2012 to 2014 saying, “Feeling so much better about not doing BS…sorry I mean VS now that Rihanna isn’t doing it also.” This will surely start a whole new set of stories as to why Jourdan is no longer an Angel, and why Rihanna really quit the lineup. If you thought the Victoria’s Secret frenzy couldn’t get higher, guess again. While the latest snippets aren’t scripted, they will only increase interest in the show that much more. 2015 may be their buzziest year yet.
