Watch What Went Down When We Gave This Regular Dude a Dramatic Makeover

From Good Housekeeping

Meet Bert Muthalaly. He's a computer programmer at Google. He's in his twenties. And he has a lot of hair. Well, he had a lot of hair - until we gave him a makeover. GoodHousekeeping.com and Esquire.com teamed up to bring Bert a whole new look for summer, complete with a clean-shaven face and stylin' clothes.

First, the haircut. Jeffrey Yabut of Julien Farel Salon took a pair of scissors to Bert's thick, long locks. (Did we mention Yabut wore a suit? Somehow this made the transformation even better.)

We watched as Bert's long waves fell to the floor, until there were several small piles at the base of the chair. We seemed to be more nervous about this than Bert.

Yabut cleaned up the look around the edges, resulting in a perfectly precise cut. Next, Yabut went to work on Bert's beard, trimming it down using an electric shaver.

Hair, check. Jonathan Evans, style editor of Esquire.com, took over at this point, putting Bert in a chic new suit.

Everyone thought Bert looked great, except for Bert. In classic 2016 fashion, the big reveal went down by having Bert take a selfie.

Thankfully, Bert's reaction was positive (which is good, because his hair will take a while to grow back). Here's the dramatic before and after:

We were doubly relieved to find out Bert's girlfriend liked the new look too. "I haven't seen his face without hair covering it since September!" she said. "I didn't mind the beard and the long hair really grew on me over these past few months, but he has really great facial features to show off too and now everyone can see them." We totally agree, Emily.
