The Victoria's Secret show this year broke some new ground on the front of beauty inclusivity. Three models (Maria Borges, Herieth Paul, and Jourdana Phillips) stormed the runway in their super-short and cropped natural cuts. And then there was Alanna Arrington, whose bouncy ringlets have become a staple on fashion week runways. At the Victoria's Secret show, she stood out as one of the only Angels to choose her natural style over the signature glossy bombshell waves. We caught up with the VS Show first-timer backstage in Paris and asked her to spill her best haircare secrets, as well as what it means to be a new icon for curly-haired women everywhere.

On representing curls on the Victoria's Secret Runway:

"I'm so glad [they didn't straighten my hair], that was something that was really important to me. This show isn't just for me or anything. There are girls watching the show, watching me, and it's for them too. They're going to see me out there with curly hair that isn't the typical blown-out bombshell and they're going to say, 'Well she can do it- I can do it.' It's all I want for a girl with curly hair to say, 'Yes, I can.' These individual looks that every girl has, these are sexy now. Victoria's Secret is saying, 'Hey, look it, she has a buzz cut. It's sexy as hell. Let her wear that buzz cut and let her feel like a sexy woman.'"

On her best advice to fellow curly-haired women:

"Embrace your natural curl. For me personally, in middle school and high school, I always tried to make my curls look like someone else's curls and thats why I never quite found what worked for me. Find curly products that you genuinely love, and whatever your hair curls to, just embrace it. It will set you apart from the rest of the curly-haired girls but it will also make you more comfortable in your own skin. It's less work when you embrace your own curl; you have less things to worry about in the morning and less stress."

On finding the right styling products:

"I use the DevaCurl line. I have recommended it for months now, it's absolutely amazing. I didn't find the curly-haired product that worked for me until I found DevaCurl. They have a no-poo conditioner, so it doesn't bubble which separates the curls, so it keeps your curls together. They have so many products for curly, super-curly, tight curls, to super-wavy hair. Anybody with textured hair, they have a product that works. If you haven't found a product that works for you, try DevaCurl."

On the importance of communication during curly haircuts:

"I have had problems with curly haircuts up until last week. I would say go to someone who you trust with textured hair. A lot of people do hair across the board but it's hard to find someone that does texture well. If you know how well your hair cuts, make sure you talk to your hairdresser. Say, 'This side gets curlier, this side is flat.' So when you do get it cut, it comes out the way you want it. It's all about communication when you get your hair cut. For me, it was going in and making sure I got enough layers so it wasn't a triangle cut. If you're trying to lessen the load of your hair, get layers. It will make the top hair really curly and it will keep the hair healthy."
