I Tried the Steam Hair Straightener and This Is What Happened

I’m always on the hunt for quicker, easier ways to do my hair, so whenever I hear of a weird new hot tool, I’m determined to try it. I’ve tested out the hair straightening brush and the automatic curler, and they both did what they were supposed to, but neither of them saved enough time for me to change my daily routine. So when I stumbled across the Head Kandy Steam Straight, my hopes were not high.
According to the website, the straightener works like a brush and a straightener combined, except instead of using ceramic plates to heat your hair to perfection, it uses steam. Its supposed to work 160% better than a regular flat iron, while save your hair from heat damage, nourishing it, and still giving you all-day straight strands. *eye roll* Unless Dumbledore personally blessed this thing with some sort of straightening magic, there is no way this can be true – or so I thought.
Before
I knew I was going to be experimenting on my hair today, so I let it do it’s (mostly) natural ~thang~. I put in a tiny bit of texturizing polish to bring out my curls, blow dried it, then topped it with a couples spritzes of hairspray.
Before I plugged in the Steam Straight, I filled up the little built-in water tank and selected one of the five heat settings. I chose 375°, not wanting to put to much heat on my delicate locks, brushed through my hair quickly, and started steaming.

As the intensely critical person I am, I don’t give my full approval lightly, so believe me when I tell you this thing is a freaking dream, at least for my hair. Normally, I only straighten the tips so my look will retain some sort of texture and volume, so I was worried that going over my entire head with this tool would give me a super flat mom ‘do. Somehow, it gave me pin straight strands, without making my hair overly silky or flat.
Just one swipe of the Steam Straight and my hair was totally curl-free. Since I didn’t have to go over patches more than once, like I do with my flat iron, it really cut down on straightening time. Best of all, the all too familiar burning hair smell was totally absent. My hair doesn’t feel fried, or damaged, and it didn’t start to flip or curl when I went outside in the New York City summer heat, a problem I am constantly battling.
It’s going to be hard taking some time off from my beloved straightener, but the Steam Straight is definitely worth it.
