Tinted Moisturizer 101

Tinted moisturizer is the perfect summer foundation. It offers the lightest, sheerest finish of any makeup, providing just enough coverage to even out your skin tone, but doesn’t feel or look heavy the way some foundations can. It also offers moisturizing benefits along with SPF, making it an easy all-in-one product. Here’s everything you need to know:

  • Tinted moisturizer is the perfect combo of foundation and moisturizer, making it a great on-the-go option. You won’t need a separate moisturizer — just apply the product and you’re done.

  • Apply concealer anywhere you need more coverage before you apply tinted moisturizer. To fix stubborn spots, use a touch-up stick that matches your skin tone, not concealer.

  • The easiest way to apply tinted moisturizer is with your fingers, blending outward and upward.

  • To set, you can apply a light dusting of powder. It’s really an optional step and is needed more if your skin is prone to shine.

  • Since tinted moisturizer has a very sheer, light finish, it is the perfect option for women who love that fresh, outdoors, no- makeup look. It is great for vacations or the weekend, any time you want a lighter look.  It’s also a good first makeup for a teen or woman trying makeup for the first time.

  • Choose a tinted moisturizer that matches your skin tone. Test it out at a makeup counter, putting it directly on the side of your face. If it blends in to your skin, then you have the right shade. You shouldn’t be able to see the product on your face.

  • Oily skin can oxidize makeup, making it appear one shade darker, or even orange. If that happens, go with an oil-free version designed to work with your skin. You also might need to go one shade lighter.

  • If you are going to be in the sun, choose a tinted moisturizer with an SPF of 30 to keep your skin protected.
