As timeless as a good red lipstick is, when spring rolls around, the urge to put your go-to tube on hold for something lighter and brighter is at an all-time high. Neighboring shades are what you’ll likely defer to, be it orange, pink, or berry hues—none of which is easy to pull off. Thankfully, there’s Halston Sage to offer a little lesson on swapping your classic red lip for a gorgeous gloss with an equally teeth-whitening, smile framing, statement-making effect.

The Neighbors star stepped out for the Dior and I L.A. premiere this week emulating prom perfection. Clad in an always-stylish LBD, the blonde starlet slicked her hair into a chic cignon—complete with a deep center part—that ensured all eyes were kept on her pretty pink pout.

Want to re-create her stunning lip look at home? No problem. Dior makeup artist, Thuy Pham, makes it simple with her step-by-step instructions. “I chose a fresh modern take on the red lip with feathery lashes,” the beauty guru explains. But instead of using false lashes, which may look a bit overdone bordering such a bold lip choice, Halston’s makeup mistress instead darkened the lash line by applying coats of mascara focusing on her roots.

From there, Diorshow’s Art Pen was Pham’s magic wand. Take cues from the artist by painting the tips of your lashes with the professional felt-tip eyeliner to kick the volume up a notch.

From there, it’s all about the mouth. Opt for a classic red lipliner and pencil in your top and bottom lips to create a nice stain as a base for your gloss of choice. We love the way Dior Rouge Brilliant Lipshine in Royale pops against Halston’s porcelain complexion (and we’ve got a feeling it would look just as stunning against anyone’s skin tone—from Selena Gomez’s to Lupita’s), but any hot pink hue will work just fine.

What do you say? Will you try this twist on a classic lip?
