If you follow the world of electric dance music you definitely know Mim and Liv, the Australian sisters behind ultra-popular act NERVO. The duo has been making waves recently thanks to their hit songs and superstar collabs with the likes of Steve Aoki, Avicii and Afrojack (not to mention their stint as faces of CoverGirl). Now, they’ve just released their first album, Collateral, and are gearing up for a series of shows that will take them from New York to Ibiza to Brazil — and that’s just the next few months. We caught up with the girls on the eve of their big performance at Creamfields to talk on-stage style, tour beauty essentials, and their tips for making it big in the music industry.

Yahoo Beauty: What products are staples in your on-stage makeup arsenal?

NERVO: We love playing with makeup and we love color. We’ve done crazy things for our music videos, like blue eyebrows and a yellow lip or a big white cat eye with a black outline, which was fun.

For performances, we’re pretty relaxed. Giorgio Armani’s foundations are incredible and we love our Makeup Forever concealer. We like Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner for a big black cat eye. We’ll switch it up with mascara, but right now it’s just one from Clinique. Sometimes, we use Bobbi Brown color pots for our cheeks and lips. They’re great. And there’s a bronzer that we use that we love called Natural Glow. We can only find it in Australia. Whenever our mom comes over to Europe we ask her to stock us up on that. We use it all the time, on our faces and on our bodies. It gives you a nice glow.

What about nails?

Oh, we’re always playing with nails and nail color too. We love shellac gel nails, because they stay shiny. And we love nail art. Whenever we get time to sit down at the nail salon, we do nail art. Whatever the artist can do, we pretty much always try it. We’ll go as out there as they can!

After a late-night show, what are your tricks to keep your skin looking fresh?

It’s really simple and it’s really quick. We always take our makeup off after a gig. We use MAC makeup remover wipes. They’re great because they just get everything off. Then, we moisturize. And we don’t wear makeup on days that we don’t have to. It’s easy. It’s all about cleaning our skin.

You guys obviously have pretty different hairstyles. What are your must-have products?

Mim: I only use one hairspray and it’s called Calorie Fat. It comes in this red bottle and I can only find it in America, so I stock up whenever I’m there. It’s great. I think it was almost a mistake when they made it, because it’s so strong. I bring it to every single video or photo shoot. The hair artists are always very surprised at how well it can hold up.

Liv: I use a lot of conditioning treatments.

Mim: She’s very picky on her conditioner. Not shampoo so much but always conditioner. Kérastase is one of her favorites.

And once a week I use a toning shampoo to keep the brassiness out. To keep my hair nice and white. I tend to color my hair a bit more because I’ve got the shave. Liv has a hat on everyday, so she can get away with roots a bit longer. We have our guy with us on the road. Often we’re doing our hair and makeup music or writing e-mails at the same time, so it’s the only way.

Do you have any style icons that inspire your performance look?

We don’t look to one person in particular, but Gwen Stefani is forever classy, unique,  and stylish. And she’s confident. She does her own thing really well. We love what Kate Moss wears. And we love the boho look that Sienna Miller can rock for sure.

You’ve played Creamfields a few times before. What do you love about the festival?

England! We just love the Brits. We love a British crowd. We like that rain or shine they’ll be having a good time. Each time we play Creamfields it just gets better and better. We met some guys at the airport last week that said they were excited to see us there. We love that. It got us so excited.

Any advice for other girls hoping to break into the guy-dominated EDM world?

Work really hard. The harder you work, the luckier you get. Work on your craft and let your music do the talking. If you persevere and you’re good at what you do, then eventually, it will take off for you!
