To compete with the flame-orange sunset, clear azure pool and sprawling view of the Hollywood Hills in the background of the frame, the final beauty look for VIOLET GREY’s shoot with Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones could be nothing less than color-spiked and deeply glamorous. Luckily, makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani knows her way around a showstopping eye. Using shades of aubergine, navy, aqua and green — made extra moody with a hint of gloss — Bedrani crafted a smoky, upturned masterpiece befitting the picturesque location. While the look is not for the faint of heart, it isn’t complicated to recreate or difficult to wear in real life. Bedrani’s suggestion? Worry not about securing a Los Angeles mansion, and simply balance the vibrant eye with clear skin and a neutral, matte lip. Bedrani’s full breakdown, below.

PERFECT SKIN
A bold eye calls for an even complexion, so Bedrani applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer to Jones’ skin, followed by Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation with a foundation brush. She skipped blush and powder to keep the look minimal and fresh.

APPLY SHADOW
Using a small shadow brush (Violet says try Utowa’s Regular Eyeshadow Brush 10), Bedrani applied the deepest hue from YSL’s 5 Couleurs Couture Palette in No. 05 Surrealiste to the outside half of Jones’ lid, building the shape up and out, stopping at the crease. She then filled in the inner corners with a mixture of the bottom two hues from Dior’s 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Carre Bleu No. 276, blending the shades across the lid and into the purple shadow.

DEEPEN THE EYE WITH LINER
To intensify the eye, Bedrani smudged black liner into Jones’ top lash line, blending away any harsh edges with a small, stiff shadow brush. (Violet says try Utowa’s Pointed Eyeshadow Brush 7P.) She lined the actress’s bottom waterline with Dior Diorshow Waterproof Liner in Mint No. 468 to add a pop of color, then smudged the purple shadow along the bottom outer lash line.

MAKE THE LID GLOSSY
To give the eye an imperfect, lived-in texture, Bedrani dabbed Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil directly above the lash line in the center of the lid. This step will also help to blend the hues together. A few coats of Dior Diorshow Iconic Mascara in Black applied to Jones’ top and bottom lashes were the finishing touch.

LIPS
A dewy, statement eye and fresh skin are properly balanced by a nude, matte lip. Bedrani applied Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in No. 4 to Jones’ pout as the final step.
