From the entire Olsen family to Gisele Bündchen, it seems that some women really do wake up with that glorious, tousled texture. The staff at Style.com, well, we don’t. Here, we road test the latest wave-makers in hopes of achieving beach-worthy hair right here in the city.

Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray

The Tester:Marites Algones, Art Director

The Product:Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray, $25; visit kevinmurphy.com.au for more information.

The Review: “For someone who has no routine other than to comb through my hair with my hands, this is a great addition to my arsenal. Just spray, massage, and go. It keeps my waves looking natural, but leaves them less frizzy and smelling like coconut.”

Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler

The Icon: Caroline de Maigret

The Tester: Amber Kallor, Senior Beauty Editor

The Product: Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler, $30; Buy it now

The Review: “De Maigret told me that she never uses conditioner and she always air-dries. In an attempt to attain effortless French-girl waves, I did the same, but added this cream to the mix. I raked it through damp strands and scrunched. Though I’m sure the Parisian air contains some inexplicable magic that leads to a lifetime of good hair days, the featherweight polymers in this product gave my natural curls a certain je ne sais quoi right here in New York.”

L'Oréal Professionnel Beach Waves Texturizing Salt Spray

The Icon: Monica Vitti in L'Avventura

The Tester: Austen Rosenfeld, Contributing Writer

The Product: L'Oréal Professionnel Beach Waves Texturizing Salt Spray, $25.50; visit us.lorealprofessionnel.com for more information.

The Review: “I love when my short hair is big and voluminous, but I’m also wary of products that make my waves feel sticky. I sprayed this into my roots after getting out of the shower and scrunched it with my hands on the subway. By the time I showed up at work, my hair was super-curly in a messy, salty, windswept way.”

Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion

The Icon: Gisele Bündchen

The Tester: Cady Lang, Contributing Social Media Editor

The Product: Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion, $29; Buy it now

The Review: “I’ve been a big fan of Bumble and Bumble’s iconic Surf Spray for years because it never fails to create waves with my coarse hair. The downside: Sometimes the spray would leave me with a stiff texture. The brand’s latest reincarnation, however, imparts the same salty benefits with a hint of hair oil, which leaves my hair soft, shiny, and touchable.”

Sun Bum Beach Formula Sea Spray

The Icon: Clémence Poésy

The Tester: Daria DiLello, Contributing Photo Assistant

The Product: Sun Bum Beach Formula Sea Spray, $15; Buy it now

The Review: “As promised, this easy, spray-scrunch-and-go formula kept my hair from looking totally flat by adding instant texture, grit, and volume. The added bonus: It smells like a sunny day on the sand—as any respectable beach product should.”
