Teyana Taylor Gets Real About Stretch Marks

Spend two seconds watching Kanye West’s "Fade" video, or the envy-stirring promo for Fade2Fit, the workout program inspired by the performance of the music video muse, and one thing is abundantly clear: Teyana Taylor has a bod-ay.

Taylor isn’t just fit—her bod is the stuff of cultish obsession. She’s got curves that radiate a powerful womanly strength that make it almost impossible not to worship at the altar of Teyana, high priestess of body goals. But even Taylor, who gave birth to her first child just months before debuting in “Fade,” isn’t immune to insecurities. In an interview with Teen Vogue, the singer, actress and next-level dancer said that it was giving birth to her daughter that inspired her to love her body wholeheartedly. "Every stretch mark, every sag, every dimple, cellulite, it all comes from sacrifices and love," she said. "I feel like a lot of reasons why it's hard to love ourselves is because of other people's opinions. Guys are very judgmental and make women feel like they're less than," she added. "Social media plays a part in that 99.9% of the time." Amen to that.

In addition to her growing list of dance, choreography and singing credits, Taylor just signed on as the face of a new ‘80s-inspired Reebok campaign—adding Empowering AF Fitness Role Model to her resume.

Taylor says that her secret to body acceptance is two-fold. First, she values her body more for what it can do (like produce a whole human) than how it looks from every angle. And second, she makes her dance heavy workouts more about her passion than her waistline. “It’s what I love to do," she told Teen Vogue. "I don't feel like there's such a thing as an imperfect body. You have to overcome things and look in the mirror and say, 'I am beautiful.'" If that’s not body goals, we don’t know what is.
