Taylor Swift is going to release new music soon. You know this, I know this, literally everyone knows this. How does everyone know this? Well! Taylor dramatically wiped her Instagram and Twitter clean; posted two silent video clips of what appears to be a snake; is probably up to something with her favorite director (and previous collaborator) Joseph Kahn; allegedly has three new music videos ready to drop; and likely has a Good Morning America appearance slated for August 31. Meanwhile, sources say we can expect new music on Friday and a performance at the VMAs on August 28.

Historically, Taylor has dropped her albums every other year: her debut was in 2006, and she churned out music like clockwork in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014. Her albums are basically like the Olympics. And yet, 2016 came and went... with no album. It's time.

Every time Taylor posts a new ~ * ~ CrYpTiC cLuE ~ * ~, the internet goes into overdrive, analyzing what it means, what it might mean, how Katy Perry might react, if Kim Kardashian is freaking out, what Calvin Harris's response could be, etc., etc., etc. It's not just Swiftie circles on Tumblr, either - your Twitter feed is probs clogged AF right now with random tweets about Tay Tay. The story dominates every site you read. Even Top 40 radio hosts can't help but talk about it in between songs.

I know that it's traditional for pop stars to hype up their music in advance with mysterious tweets, promotional photoshoots, and teaser clips. The promo phase can be fun! It's exciting to put on your detective hat and scope out clues.

Taylor has played this game before. She spent weeks teasing individual celeb cameos before finally revealing the music video for "Bad Blood" at the 2015 BBMAs. And she's obviously not the only star who toys with fans in maddeningly vague ways. Last month, Selena Gomez teased her single "Fetish" with a photo, and then hyped up the music video with a brief video clip that showed literally nothing but her mouth.

But the long, drawn-out promotional process isn't the only approach. For stars of a certain caliber - Taylor included - there's another option. Beyoncé famously dropped an entire self-titled visual album in 2013 in the dead of night without so much as a hint that it was on its way. Rihanna pulled a similar move back in January with Anti. Surprise albums are a power move, and you know Taylor loves to make a splash.

Look, I'm not even necessarily dying to hear whatever Taylor's cooking up. I'm sure it'll be good. My plea isn't based in wanting new music - I simply want Taylor to stop driving me crazy with silent, glitchy videos of snakes or dragons or whatever they are.

TS6, as it's called online (since Taylor has yet to reveal the title, or even confirm an album is on its way), will probably come soon, and it'll probably be a smash hit. But at this point, I am very bored of waiting and I'm legit mad that Taylor isn't giving me anything concrete to work with here. A release date. A song snippet. An album title. Anything.

Come on, girl. Teasing can be fun, but not if you're going to be this annoyingly cryptic about it.
