Summer Veggies for Gorgeous Skin

New York City dermatologist and Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research at Mount Sinai Medical Center Joshua Zeichner shares his favorite farmer’s market picks to cure what ails you—and your skin.

For inflammation…red and yellow peppers. “They’re rich in carotenoids, which soothe redness. They also have a good dose of vitamin C, which promotes collagen production—a necessary function for minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.”

For acne…napa cabbage. “It’s very high in zinc, which can help soothe breakouts.”

For dark spots…spinach and soy beans. “They’re both very rich in antioxidants, which can work to fade hyper-pigmentation.”

For overall clarity…carrots. “They have tons of beta-carotene, a form of vitamin A, which promotes healthy and optimized skin cells.”

For sun protection…mushrooms. “The high levels of selenium can help minimize free radical damage from UVA and UVB rays.”

For an antioxidant blast…beets. “Beets contain anthocyanins, one of the most powerful antixodants out there. They can prevent free radical damage, which has anticancer and anti-aging benefits.”
