Struggle With Applying False Lashes? Watch This Video

Holiday parties have started, and having fun with your beauty look is obligatory. If glitter and red lips just aren’t your style, the best way to amp up the glam might just be a set of falsies. They add extra oomph to your look and can range from natural to glamazon, depending on what you’re going for. But from maneuvering the tweezers and stabbing yourself in the eye to using the wrong glue and ripping out your eyelashes, everything about false lashes can be intimidating. If you’re planning to bat your eyes at somebody at your holiday party but always manage to stick strip lashes closer to your eyebrow, this is the video for you.

Starting at the 57-second mark, Australian vlogger Tina Yong breaks down everything you need to know about applying your falsies.

Step 1: Trim your lashes to fit the length of your eye, cutting from the outer corner of the strip, and only from the inner corner if there is an extra piece of strip with no lashes attached.

Step 2: Curl your lashes and apply mascara

Step 3: Apply a thin layer of glue to your lashes using the back of your tweezers or a brush. Put an extra dab of glue at either corner, as these are the areas most likely to lift up. Allow the glue to dry until tacky, about 30 seconds.

Step 4: Tilt your chin up and use tweezers to apply your lashes, holding them at the center of the strip and dropping them just above your own lash line, then securing the corners using the tweezers.

Step 5: While the glue is drying, use your fingers to lift the lashes upward. Then use your fingers to press the strip lashes into your own lashes to blend.

Selecting your lashes: Tina uses Esqido Unforgettable mink strip lashes ($32), which have a fairly natural look and a flared end. If you can, go for naturally sourced lashes with tapered tips instead of blunt ends.

Finding your glue: Avoid using long-wear glue unless you’re applying individual lashes. Using a heavy glue on strip lashes makes it easier to rip out your lashes. If you have a latex allergy, bear in mind that most glues are latex-based.

Removing your lashes: When it’s time to remove your strip lashes, soak a cotton ball or Q-tip in oil-free makeup remover and run it along the strip to loosen the glue. Then slowly pull the lashes from your lid. They should come off easily.

Cleaning your lashes: Use your cotton swab with oil-free makeup remover to wipe any mascara from your falsies. Be sure to use an oil-free remover, as this makes it easier to rewear the lashes. Remove the glue from the strip with your fingers, and store your lashes in the container they came in. You can get about 20 wears out of each set.
