When Millie Bobby Brown stepped onto the screen (and into our hearts) as Eleven, a young girl with telekentic powers on the Netflix hit Stranger Things, she instantly captivated viewers with her poise, talent and overall confidence. And for the 12-year-old British actress, shaving her head for the role wasn’t a big deal, even though her family had some objections. We spoke to Brown about her career-defining look — and how she plans on keeping up with her current pixie cut.

“I reacted to it quite fine, it was my mum that didn’t react very well,” Brown tells PeopleStyle of the decision to buzz her hair. “My dad reacted fine, but my grandfather… nope! Everyone was saying, ‘No,’ but I didn’t. My friends didn’t want me to do it either, but my best friend told me I should definitely do it.”

Now, as her super-short cut grows out, she’s proudly rocking a pixie, a look she says she’s “definitely” on a quest to bring back. “I’m keeping the pixie,” she says with confidence. “I hope I inspire people… it’s really cool to have short hair.”

And while her look is inspiring us off screen, Brown says that Eleven doesn’t realize the power of her own appearance. “She was pretty, but she didn’t mean to be. She doesn’t know that she’s a pretty girl — inside and out.”

However, she maintains that Eleven’s blonde wig was not her best beauty moment: “She thinks she’s pretty there, but nope,” Brown says of the scene in which Eleven sees herself in the mirror for the first time.

Wig or no wig, Eleven is a total boss. Now, please excuse us while we run to the hair salon to get our Millie-inspired pixies.
