Snapping a Photo of Your Meal Could Cost You a Second Date
Foodies, take note. That perfectly staged snap you took of your grilled octopus on your date last night may have just cost you a second date.
Popular dating site EliteSingles.ca, recently conducted a study to find out what exactly prevented singles in Canada from landing that second date — and some of the findings were pretty surprising.
These were the top five blunders:
Choosing a swanky restaurant – 84 percent of Canadians said the first date should be casual, ideally at a coffee shop.
Lying – This one should be obvious but 70 percent said they’d walk the other way if they found out their date lied about being a smoker, while 49 percent didn’t appreciate their date lying about their weight. Lying about height was also a no-no.
Wearing bad clothes – That novelty shirt may amuse your buddies, but 63 percent considered this a major turnoff.
Spending the night – Most women found sex, or even the suggestion of sex on the first date, to be reason for dismissal.
Being too quiet – Turns out it doesn’t pay to be a good listener. A full 76 percent of Canadians are looking for someone chatty.
While many of these may seem obvious, some other findings were more surprising.
According to the study, taking a picture of your meal or Snapchatting part of your date experience is a major turnoff – even more than being a bad kisser. Additionally, any form of selfie, but particularly one taken using a selfie stick, was found to be unattractive by one in four men.
Some other unexpected turnoffs included getting too dressed up for a date. This included wearing a suit and tie for men and too much jewelry for women.
But if you really want to add insult to injury, add your date on Facebook. The survey found that 20 percent of Canadians thought it was weird to be added on social media after the first date.
