In Slovenia, Melania Trump–Themed Merchandise Sells

Melania Trump may be America’s newest First Lady, but she is already quite the celebrity in her home country of Slovenia. In the small picturesque town of Sevnica, where she grew up, small businesses have created a range of goodies dedicated to the new First Lady, including a cake named “Melanija,” (the Slovene spelling of “Melania”), a jar of honey with her portrait, and a wine titled “First Lady.” He may have been born in Queens, but even President Donald Trump has been getting his share of Slovenian pride: One restaurant cooked up a “Donald Hamburger,” complete with a piece of fried cheese on top of the bun to mimic the president’s hairstyle.

About 50 miles away from Sevnica, in Slovenia’s largest city, Ljubljana, Melania Trump’s former schoolmate Urša Mravlje created a soap titled “Melanija” for her aromatherapy store, Aromatica.

The handmade violet and lavender rectangular bar is $4.81, made from all-natural ingredients, and smells like magnolias, which Mravlje describes in an email as “a wonderful floral scent that refreshes and attracts.” According to Mravlje, the soap, which has been popular with tourists and locals alike, doesn’t just share the same name of The First Lady: it embodies Trump herself. “I remember Melania from high school. She was one year ahead of me,” writes Mravlje. “She was good-looking and natural like our soap.” Recently, a tourist picked one up on his way home to New York. “As for Slovenians,” she said, “some might buy it because they are proud of Melania. Others, because it is a fun idea, and of course, because its a high quality all-natural and very pleasantly smelling soap.”
