Selena Gomez reemerged at last night’s AMA Awards after a three-month hiatus to focus on her mental health. “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,” the 24-year-old told People on August 30th. “I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.” Now, Selena is back and stronger than ever. “I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” Gomez said while accepting her award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. “All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love.”
Selena’s self awareness and ability to take a step back from the public eye make her a role model to everybody with a tendency to work too hard and put others first. Her big heart — and her classic beauty look and gown at last night’s awards — gave us major Disney Princess vibes. Gomez wore a red silk Prada gown, and her low ponytail was a cross between Kate Middleton and Belle’s signature styles.
Gomez opted for timeless, minimal makeup to put her natural beauty in the spotlight. To embrace her skin, Chanel makeup artist Hung Vanngo prepped with Hydra Beauty Flash Instantly Hydrating Perfecting Balm, La Solution 10 de Chanel Sensitive Skin Cream, and Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care. He followed with Vitalumière Aqua Foundation. “She has beautiful skin, so I didn’t need much,” he says. Then, went in with Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen and a tiny bit of Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer “to enhance her natural radiance and correct only where needed.” He added warmth to her skin with Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base and a subtle pop of cheek color with Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in Blush N°22 before setting with a light dusting of Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15.
On Selena’s eyes, Vanngo used taupe shades for a subtly sultry look. He started with Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Pomme de Pin along the top and bottom lash line and blended the same pencil into the crease for soft definition. On top, he layered with shades from the Quadra Eyeshadow Palette in Tissé Gabrielle, finishing with several coats of Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir on the top and bottom lashes. He enhanced Selena’s youthfully straight brows with powder from the Brow Powder Duo in 50 Brun, brushing them into place. “After Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care had soaked in and thoroughly conditioned her lips, I blotted the excess and lightly traced her natural shape with Precision Lip Definer in Beige Innocent,” says Vanngo. And so, Selena became a princess.
