You Need to See This Woman's $70,000 Barbie Collection

From Good Housekeeping

Do you remember your first Barbie? For millions of kids, this little blonde doll is one of their most precious toys. For 34-year-old Azusa Sakamoto, it’s an all-out obsession with everything related to Mattel’s most iconic brand.

The Los Angeles nail artist has been devoted to Barbies since she was 15 years old, when she first purchased a Barbie lunchbox. Since then, she’s spent a shocking $70,000 on Barbie-related everything, from kitchenware and bath towels to makeup and clothing. She owns over 60 Barbie handbags, 40 pairs of Barbie shoes and a whopping 145 Barbie dolls. Her favorite: the Movie Mixer Barbie doll. Her Instagram offers a peek inside her remarkably pink world.

Sakamoto’s talent for painting nails means she loves doing Barbie-themed nail art too.

She even recently dyed her hair pastel pink!

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sakamoto says she loves Barbie for what she represents to women. “To me, Barbie shows girls that we can be anything we want, she shows us to have fun,” she says. “She has so many professions, too, sometimes she’s a teacher, then a doctor, then a dancer. She shows us all the opportunities women have.”

Now, while Sakamoto’s collection of dolls is indeed very impressive, it’s by no means the biggest. The official Guinness World Records title belongs to Bettina Dorfmann, a German woman who received her first Midge doll (Barbie’s original BFF) in 1966. She’s been building her collection since 1993. Not only does she own over 15,000 different Barbie dolls, she’s also a Barbie doctor - that is, she fixes dolls in Germany through a “Barbie hospital” that she runs. Check out her collection:

While Dorfmann’s collection seems to focus more on the actual dolls, Sakamoto has an all-around passion for the pretty pink imagery of Barbie’s brand. If you just want to channel Barbie for a day with way less effort (and cash)? You can always just try this wild Barbie makeup tutorial.
