Owls have a reputation in pop culture for being adorable, wise, and so intrinsically magical that they are the mail carriers of the wizarding world. Just look at this majestic creature:

They're even cute as cartoons. (How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie pop?)

But have you ever wondered what an owl looks like without its feathered robe? Author Dana Schwartz recently decided to Google just that and the result is not what we expected.

What is this skeletal creature with big beady eyes and bony legs?!

In case you're thinking that this must be photoshopped, it's not.

"The bird in the center is what a barn owl would look like with almost no feathers," the deputy director of World Bird Sanctuary, Jeffrey Meshach, told BuzzFeed. "It's actually a great photo showing how much feathers change the appearance of a bird."

Understandably, people are a bit freaked out.

To take it one step further, people started Googling what other animals look like without hair.

Like bunnies, who sort of have the appearance of wise gurus, but definitely aren't as cute without their fur.

Furless bears, who definitely have a "monster" kind of vibe.

Bald hedgehogs certainly look less intimidating.

Moral of the story? We prefer our animals with their cute furry skins!
