This School Is Charging Students a Fee for Being Late

It seems to be working.

For most students, the worst possible consequence of being repeatedly late is a trip to the principal's office. But at Stansbury Park High School in Utah, chronically late students will have to pay — literally. The school is charging a fee for lateness, AOL reports.

If you just come to class late once, you'll get let off with a warning. But if you do it again, you'll have to pay $3, and you owe an additional $5 every time after that. The money goes to a fund that'll be used for the students.

Some parents are complaining that the school is just trying to get money at students' expense, but Principal Gailynn Warr told AOL this is not the goal. "It would be great if I didn't get any money," she said. "We just want kids in class."

Apparently, it's working: The school hasn't had to charge any fees so far, and the hallways are unusually empty as classes begin.
