Scarlett Johansson Is Taking Self-Defense Classes Because of a Journalist

She’s seriously badass.

In case you missed the memo, Scarlett Johansson isn’t the type of woman to just take things quietly. In fact, she’s way more of a kick-ass type, having starred in superhero films like Avengers and Captain America. So it should come as no surprise that when it comes to handling rude journalists—especially the less-than-appropriate kind—Johansson’s attitude is that of take no prisoners—almost quite literally.

On Late Night With Seth Meyers, Johansson came to talk about her latest movie, The Ghost in the Shell, and happened upon her latest form of fitness (or, uh, aggression relief): self-defense classes. (You could also try one of these martial-arts-style workouts, too, if you’re in the mood right now.)

“I actually started recently taking a self-defense class, because I was giving an interview, and the interviewer asked if I could beat him up in the interview,” Johansson told Meyers on Late Night. “It was such a weird interview, and I was like, ‘Right now?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, could you beat me up?’ And I was like, ‘I want to, but I don’t know if I can!’ And then on my walk home I was like, ‘I gotta do something about this.’ Just so I could kick the ass of some misogynistic journalist.”

Watch the clip here, where Johansson tells Meyers about the training she’s done for previous roles, her current kicking game, and more.

The sentiment we love the most though, perhaps, is the one Johansson says is the reason for all of her training. “I made a promise to myself that I should not just look like I know how to kick ass, but I probably should be able to,” she told Meyers. So ScarJo, we’ll be looking forward to seeing you kick some ass real soon.
