Runway Hair Accessories to Wear Now

There’s nothing groundbreaking about the hair for spring: long loose waves that call for a side of fish oil with each meal from now until May. But the runways have shown off a slew of creative ways to tame those waves, from combs to crowns.

Most recently, at Celine’s spring show in Paris, hair stylist Guido Palau pulled half of each models’ hair back and secured it with a round gold clip.  (You can get the look now with this Large “O” Barrette ($45) from President and Co.) At Lanvin, Palau tucked traditional gold combs underneath low-slung knots. “They make a classic look feel special,” he told Vogue. If you’re not up for sourcing vintage combs on eBay or Etsy, try this tusk-shaped one from Luv AJ ($120), or this Sylvain Le Hen ($80) comb.

At Bottega Veneta, Palau used combs again, this time brooding dark floral ones meant to dress up the hastily built buns. Jennifer Behr’s black brass comb ($255) is similarly romantic, while Vickisarge’s Swarovski crystal comb ($480) lends a funkier vibe to an up-do. Speaking of which, hair stylist Sam McKnight (who, by the way, collaborated with Vickisarge on the aforementioned comb), wrapped the models’ undone ponytails in leather orchids at Fendi (where makeup artist Peter Philips lined the models’ eyes with leather). Dolce and Gabbana wins for most dramatic; Palau set crowns and tiaras atop slicked back buns. It’s not a look we’d recommend trying at home. But he also tucked red roses and carnations into the low-slung knots—and that’s a look we’d definitely recommend trying.
