Richard Dreyfuss's exchanges with his son make Twitter worth it
Twitter can be a dark place at times, but every now and then it’s really wonderful. Case in point: the online exchanges between Richard Dreyfuss and his son Ben.
The legendary actor, 69, and Ben, 31, had quite an amusing back-and-forth conversation via social media over the weekend. It all began when film magazine Little White Lies posed an innocent question to its followers.
What’s your favourite Steven Spielberg movie and why?
— Little White Lies (@LWLies) September 16, 2017
Ben, who is a senior editor at Mother Jones, chimed in with a thoughtful response.
“Jaws” because I didn’t get a scholarship to college and my dad had to pay for it https://t.co/hrafuJBrjT

Dreyfuss senior took notice.
I used the Poseidon money for your college.
— Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) September 17, 2017
Richard starred in the 2006 film Poseidon, which wasn’t exactly a box office success. Ben took the high road in perhaps not pointing that out.
That wasn’t college. That was rehab.

I get them confused because neither took.
— Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) September 17, 2017
Not nice!!!! But also not untrue
— Ben Dreyfuss (@bendreyfuss) September 17, 2017
Tim Herrera of the New York Times jumped in on the back-and-forth, inadvertently escalating the awesomeness.
Lmao oh you guys!!!!
— Internet Person™⭐️ (@TimHerrera) September 17, 2017
Dad please don’t embarrass me in front of my SoulCycle friends
— Ben Dreyfuss (@bendreyfuss) September 17, 2017
Richard do you wanna come to a class next time you’re in New York???
— Internet Person™⭐️ (@TimHerrera) September 17, 2017
Ben knows that the answer to this question is no, because though I support him, I am an old Jew and old Jews don’t ride bikes.

70 is the new 40!
— Ben Dreyfuss (@bendreyfuss) September 17, 2017
This isn’t the first time Richard and Ben have had an epic back-and-forth on Twitter. There was that time when the actor asked his son for help in reaching 100,000 followers.
@bendreyfuss why don’t i have a hundred thousand followers yet
— Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) August 24, 2016
Ben replied, writing, “tweet photos of vintage Hollywood and s–t and you’ll have 100,000 in no time.”
i’m not going down to the garage to take photos of my better times to get followers on Twitter
— Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) August 24, 2016
you sent me two photos. one of emily and me and the other one is my wedding photo. you know your mom and i got a divorce right?
— Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) August 24, 2016
This is the only framed photo @bendreyfuss has. He’s 30. “I get it, I get, you wish your mom & me stayed together” pic.twitter.com/J9PlDcwSE0
— Richard Dreyfuss (@RichardDreyfuss) August 24, 2016
Or there was the time when Ben called out his dad for playing favorites.
I had dinner with noted wonderful father @RichardDreyfuss tonight because he loves me so much more than @EmilyDreyfuss and @harrydreyfuss.
— Ben Dreyfuss (@bendreyfuss) April 14, 2017
“I often forget they even exist, Ben,” my father may or may not have said in reference to my siblings. “They’re just pale imitations of you” https://t.co/1ypuedvZZk

Basically we have to ask: Where’s the Keeping Up With the Dreyfusses show we all deserve?
