This Product Is the Answer to an Eyeliner and Mascara in One

There is a whole long list of things I CAN’T do and tightlining hits sort of close to the top. Until a few years ago, I wasn’t even totally sure what tightlining was (quick and totally not expert-supplied tutorial, you just kind of point your eyeliner in between your lashes to fill in the lash line), but I’ve watched enough makeup artists work their magic to know that A., I am not skilled enough to do it myself and B., It looks seriously amazing when you can.

It Cosmetics Tightline Full Lash Length Black Mascara Primer ($24) is that product that can help you fake it til you make it. The wand is the skinniest I have ever seen—think like the width of a toothpick, if that—which is why, at first, I sort of relegated it to the “this won’t work for my lashes” throw-off pile because I typically prefer those chunkier wands that fatten up lashes.

Luckily, I had enough sense to save it and it’s been paying off in eye makeup–heaven dividends. For starters, it gets super close to your roots (yet doesn’t feel weird or itchy or like you're irritating it), and sort of fills in all the gaps; then, it lengthens your lashes and gives even the tiniest ones a feathery-flick. Plus, even though the product’s official directions for use are to wear it “alone or under mascra,” I’ve found that—in addition to working the suggested ways—it also does a great job at the end of the day to sort of "separate" my lashes and freshen up my makeup without me messing anything up.
