Pink Tackles Internet Bullies

If there is a role model in the music business for body confidence, real candor, and all-out cool, it has to go to Pink.  The powerhouse singer/songwriter has never shied away from controversy and is speaking out against a culture that is way too comfortable insulting and body shaming women. “I don’t take well to bullying. I never have. I’m not a person that will be bullied. I’m not a person that will stand by watching other people bullied,’ Pink told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m raising a girl. I am a girl. I have feelings. People think I take no s**t and I’m tough, tougher than nails, but I’m a human being.”

Pink was referring to a recent statement she made on Twitter regarding her weight. “I can see that some of you are concerned about me from your comments about my weight,” she wrote on April 12th. “My good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me. I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either. I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous, and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off.”

Pink explained to Entertainment Tonight that she doesn’t understand the culture of critics that lash out against celebrities on social media. Not only does she not get them, she thinks they are worthless. “They think their opinion matters and holds weight, and I don’t know where or why they’re giving themselves so much credit, you know? So I thought it was important for me to remind them that I don’t care,” she said. Instead, Pink puts out Tweets like this one, “Willow said to me the other day whilst grabbing my belly-“mama-why r u so squishy?"And I said.."b/cuz I’m happy baby.”

It’s hard not to love Pink for refusing to apologize or feel bad about her body (which is frankly fabulous), instead approaching it from a place of total and complete confidence. Her focus is on what matters—family, joy, work that she loves—not on the superficial. “My life is full. I like food a lot and I really like to cook. I like to live. I find joy in that, and we’re doing all right in the Hart household.”

Doing better than all right, Pink just received major industry recognition with a songwriting award from BMI. “Songwriting and performing are the two biggest things for me. I’ve never been one for the popularity contest and conforming or any of that,” she said. “So to recognized as a legit songwriter makes me puff up my chest up a little bit.”
