Besides being the perfect addition to your breakfast, hard-boiled eggs can apparently be used to apply makeup.

Beauty vlogger Nadi of PopLuxe posted a YouTube tutorial using a hard-boiled egg to put on makeup as part of a series called “Project Object.” The tutorial begins with Nadi squirting a few drops of liquid foundation across his face before dabbing it on with soft taps from a boiled egg.

“Oh my gosh, this is actually working really, really well,” he says.

Nadi explains that he likes how “cold” and “refreshing” the hard-boiled egg feels on his face, but he also admits that the smell isn’t as pleasant. Shortly after he blends in a good portion of the foundation, the egg begins to crumble into tiny pieces.

Overall, the blending process seems to work well on his skin, and Nadi also manages to blend his highlighter, powders, and eyeshadow with the unconventional makeup applicator. However, there is one big “uh-oh” moment when the egg cracks down the middle. Whoops!

Makeup artist Esther Gbudje, also known as houseofsienna, gave the hard-boiled egg method a shot too. Her results were equally as smooth.

Gbudje told Allure, “The egg did give me the flawless look I was going for, and it doesn’t absorb any product at all.” She also noted, “After each application, I cleaned the egg with wipes before applying another product on my face, so I would say it worked for me.”

As you could imagine, other beauty enthusiasts were just as egg-cited to put this makeup hack to the test. Keep reading to see how it worked out for a couple of curious minds.

Most people probably had the same sentiments as beauty vlogger Skelotim when he attempted to use a hard-boiled egg. He actually took it a step further and tried blending with lots of other foods and ended up with Freddy Krueger-looking results. Yikes.

“This is a no-go. I don’t know who the f*** invented this idea,” he says.
