Pat McGrath Does Perfectly Groomed Brows

Before Cara Delevingne and Brooke Shields became eyebrow icons, there was Ali MacGraw. The actress embodied the fresh-faced All-American beauty look of the 1970s—long straight hair with a center part and strong eyebrows. She became a household name after her role in the film Love Story, starring alongside Ryan O’Neal. So comes as no surprise that MacGraw was the inspiration for the beauty look at the fall Tommy Hilfiger show. Hilfiger, after all, has made his career being the All-American designer.

For the show, legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath focused on perfecting the skin and creating a beautifully groomed brow to compliment the ultra-sporty collection (the show’s venue, the Park Avenue Armory, was turned into a football field for the event). Using CoverGirl’s Bombshell Pow-der Brow and Liner, McGrath filled in and defined brows on all the models. “It goes on so easily and the shape of the applicator allows you to draw into the brows and fill in all the spaces,” says McGrath. A powder formula allows more control than a traditional brow liner because you can easily brush away any excess product at the end. McGrath recommends grooming brows by brushing them upward and outwards before applying the powder, and again after. In the end, the look for McGrath is clear, “It’s all about the brows.”
