With our ever-frenetic lifestyles and selfie-obsessed culture, we want to look good, and we want it now.  Our need for speed has spawned a host of skincare products that promise to instantly firm and tighten, and thankfully you don’t have to visit a dermatologist’s office to enjoy their magic. The Jennifer Aniston-backed beauty company Living Proof created Neotensil, adhesive patches that temporarily deflate eye bags in minutes. Known for its quick-fix results, the product has taken off. Consider these latest innovations shapewear for your whole face.

To alleviate turkey neck, Strivectin’s Tightening Neck Serum Roller ($89), includes a blend of biopolymers and acacia gum that spreads over the skin, creating a lifted effect once the formula dries, while a mix of peptides and algae strengthen and boost elasticity over the long term.

For a temporary facelift in a pump, try REN Skincare’s new Instant Firming Beauty Shot ($54) uses hyaluronic acid to plump and tighten the skin within minutes, while also working over time to firm and produce more of the skin’s own water-loving hyaluronic acid. The short-term lifting effect last up to six hours, and the serum “can be reapplied as frequently as desired – even over make-up,” says David Delport, head of education for REN Skincare.

While dermatologist treatments such as Botox and fillers are on the rise (up 3% and 13%, respectively, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons), some of us may not be ready—or willing—to go under the needle. And why get an injectable when you can get a similar (albeit temporary) effect from a cream or serum?

That’s the thinking behind Needles No More Instant Wrinkle Relaxing Cream ($89), developed by the late Dr. Frederic Brandt. Inspired by a topical form of Botox he developed for in-office use, Needles No More combines peptides, adenosine, calcium and magnesium to relax facial muscles and tighten skin over the course of an hour. “The ingredients penetrate very quickly into the skin because of the peptide carrier so you’re getting an immediate relaxation of the muscles to soften the lines,” says Brandt. Results last up to 12 hours, he says, but “the benefits keep improving after each additional application.”

Even face masks are dabbling in the skin tightening trend. Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask ($92) creates a “corset-like” effect on the skin with the help of black tea ferment, hyaluronic acid and peptides to firm and boost moisture by morning. Rodial’s super-hydrating, bio-cellulose fabric Glamtox Neck Masks ($56) mould to the neck’s contours, delivering wheat protein and amino acids to firm and smooth the area. Rodial founder Maria Hatzistefanis says the tightening effect lasts up to three days, and will yield optimum results when used twice a week.

Karen Grant, VP and global beauty industry analyst with NPD Group, sees the trend as part of a growing beauty movement for products that help us look instantly “camera-ready.” “Skincare used to be all about treating the skin—the idea that this product will actually fix lines and wrinkles,” says Grant. “Now it’s more about the overall appearance of the skin. The end look has come to the fore—it’s changing how people approach makeup and skincare.”
