Neon Strobing Is the New Highlighting Technique on Instagram

As everyone knows by now, highlighting has quickly become one of the must-have beauty products in anyone’s routine. But have you heard of neon strobing? Before you embrace rainbow highlighter, or the iridescent variety, or even trippy holographic makeup — and definitely before you get your next driver's license photo — we encourage you to give neon strobing, a new highlighting technique, a quick little gander.
But now, a new trend may take over and become even more popular than traditional highlighting. Makeup artist Dezzy Lopez (@dezzzymua), an 18-year-old from North Carolina, has been flooding his Instagram feed with photos of himself decked out in the brightest, boldest, and most other-worldly highlighting technique we've seen to date. He's calling it "neon strobing" and it's, quite literally, lit. Using fluorescent pink, purple and green highlighters and glitters, the makeup artist painted the pigment around his cheekbone, above the brow, on the inner corner on the eye, on the tip of the nose, chin, ears and cupid’s bow—just as you would with a normal highlighter—for a seriously electric glow. To be fair, highlighters that vibrant aren't exactly easy to come by. Lopez credits more under the radar brands like the Etsy shops BeautyBarBaby Cosmetics and Moon Glimmer Cosmetics as the source of his fiery pigments.
In some cases, Lopez blended multiple shades of highlighter together, using a bold application, to get a neon glow.
In others, he mixed two similar shades — like a rosy pink and a fuchsia — together to achieve the neon look. To be fair, in all of the makeup artist’s photos on Instagram, Lopez has extremely glow-y skin, but the #NeonStrobing photos take the cake for the next extreme look we want to try.
Neon colors are typically associated with spring and summer nights out, and we love this reinterpretation of strobing made colorful. If you want to try the look out for yourself, take a cue from Lopez and go for a bold brow and glossy lip. With such a pigmented neon strobing glow, you don’t need much else.
