We have all heard a variety of rumors when it comes to hair, but are there any truths to these claims?! We’ve done our research and are breaking down the hair myths you’ve wondered about.

Truth: No. This is totally not true! Pulling out a single hair will result in the growth of ONLY one single hair, regardless of color. This myth probably is a result of rapid greying. Fact is, only a single hair follicle will produce a single hair. However, we recommend not pulling out your grey hair! Talk to your colorist for alternatives, such as grey coverage and blending techniques.

Truth: Ask your colorist! Each stylist has a personal preference. While we would never recommend showing up to your color appointment with extremely dirty hair, aka gobs of styling product built up for days, your colorist may prefer you to wash the night before and avoid using heavy styling products. Again just ask your colorist their preference!

Truth: While stimulation to the scalp does increase blood flow which is a positive attribute to hair growth, over stimulation is not ideal to the hair cuticle. Whether it’s brushing, blow drying, curling or flat ironing; overdoing it is over doing it. Use a good quality brush (like a Mason Pearson), good products, and don’t over do it with any of the above mentioned styling techniques to maintain healthy hair!

Truth: This is absolutely not true! Your stylist will be able to have better control over your style if your hair is freshly washed as they can then layer on hair product for the desired result. Dirty hair to your stylist may be clean hair to you, so it’s best to avoid the confusion and show up with clean strands. If you’re hair is too dirty to work with, you will never get your hair to look like the picture you brought in. In addition, it’s always a good idea to schedule a consultation before the actual event. During this consultation your stylist will be able to tell you how to arrive to your appointment. If you are skipping the consult; best advice- never show up with hair that hasn’t been washed!

Truth: Absolutely not! The truth is most women tend to cut their hair too often. If you are using a good shampoo, conditioner, and styling products recommended by your stylist, you should be able to go up to 3 months without a trim. This ensures your previous style has growth out enough for your stylist to reshape your hair with some extra length anyways. However, no mask, conditioner, oil, protein treatment, magic pill, etc. can mend split ends! If you notice those ends breaking, the only real cure is to get into the salon asap for a trim!
