Mom Arrested For Leaving Kids Home Alone to Attend Zumba Class
A mom allegedly left two of her kids home alone on Tuesday morning so she could attend a Zumba class. Now she's facing criminal charges and possibly two years in prison.
Gisela Sanchez-Flores, 33, brought an 18-month-old child she was babysitting to the workout class in Austin, Texas, according to ABC-13, but left her own 18-month-old and 2-year-old at home unattended because, she told authorities, they were sleeping at the time and she didn't want to be late to class.
She arrived at the class, which was just a half-mile from her house, around 8:40 a.m. and got home around 9:45 a.m., according to the Austin American-Statesman. While she was gone at least one of her children woke up, and was found wandering near the street while traffic passed by, MySanAntonio.com reports. A neighbor retrieved the child, who was crying and asking about his mom, a police affidavit said.
When Sanches-Flores returned home, police were waiting for her. They took her into custody and charged her with abandoning a child with intent to return. The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of two years.
