Michelle Obama is closing up her last few days as first lady doing, well, first lady stuff, like sitting down with Ryan Seacrest at the Youth Pride Clinic in Washington, D.C., which treats adolescent LGBTQ patients. Seacrest was on hand to moderate the lighthearted Q&A about skiing, Christmas pajamas, and the adorable relationship between the first dogs, Sunny and Bo.

But the highlight of the interview had to be an exchange between the first lady and one of the teens at the clinic about … eyebrows. When one audience member named Jade took the mic to ask Obama a question, the first lady couldn’t help but notice Jade’s well-maintained eyebrows.

Q Yeah. Okay, so the first question –

MRS. OBAMA: First of all, I have to say, eyebrows on fleek. (Laughter.)

Q Thank you so much.

MRS. OBAMA: I am noticing. Yeah, uh-huh.

Q I worked very hard on them, so I appreciate it.

MRS. OBAMA: I can tell.

Q Thank you. I really like your eyebrows too.

MRS. OBAMA: Just the important things. (Laughter.)

Q Eyebrows on fleek.

Q Yeah, as long as your eyebrows are on fleek, nothing else really matters.

MRS. OBAMA: Then you feel good.

Q Exactly. The eyebrows are the actual eyes to the soul. (Laughter.)

That the 52-year-old mother of two teenage girls can say “on fleek” and not sound like a total dork is a testament to how hip the FLOTUS is.

We reached out to Jade, who told us via e-mail that the experience was “AMAZING and totally unexpected.” Jade admitted she is a huge fan of Obama’s personal style. “She always looks flawless and put together. Having someone who has magnificent fashion and makeup taste – [who] on top of that [is] a huge idol of mine – compliment my eyebrows was a dream come true… it means I gotta be doing something right!”

Turns out, Jade’s eyebrow routine is not only working well for her, but it’s also relatively simple. “all I do is use an eyebrow pencil that matches the color of my eyebrows, and pencil them in. I then use some concealer to carve out the shape of them, sharpen any blunt or harsh lines, and really make them look ‘on fleek!'” With technique like that, no wonder the First Lady took notice!

Michelle Obama would know a thing or two about good brows, as hers have transformed since 2008:

Obama has kicked the thin brows to the curb and embraced a fuller look, making them well, quite fleeky … and quite expressive.

They can also get across that “welp!” feeling we all sometimes have…

…and that her side-eye game is as fresh as the veggies growing from her organic White House garden.

Michelle Obama might soon be the ex-FLOTUS, but she will always be the First Lady of Good, American Eyebrows.
