Mermaid Crowns Are The New Flower Crowns

Whenever spring rolls around, we're pretty much guaranteed that fresh flower crowns will be worn by people at music festivals and on others who just generally love boho style. However, there's one woman who decided to change all that, by reinventing the typical flower crown and making it something we absolutely need in our lives.

Enter: mermaid crowns. The gorgeous creations are covered in real seashells, pearls, and gems and look just as amazing paired with a bikini for a day on the beach as they do with denim cut-offs and a tee. Chelsea Shiels, a 27-year-old from Melbourne, has been making mermaid crowns and selling them through Instagram to her friends and mermaid lovers around the world.

Shiels offers a variety of crowns in different colors, and you can even place a custom order and create your own version. These custom orders include your choice of shells and gems, and sell for a little over $105 on her Etsy shop (a few of the more detailed versions sell for over $400). Some of the smaller crowns use about 20 seashells, while the larger ones feature up to 50 different shells. Shiels sources her shells from locations that have an excess of shells on beaches and she works with suppliers in India, Australia, and Hawaii.

And if you're more of a traditional type and still love a good ol' flower crown, she does things her own way. One of her flower crowns is made out of silver and gold metal instead of delicate, fresh blooms.
