Meet Model Issa Lish: Vogue Cover Girl, Marc Jacobs Star, and All-Around Cool Girl

Only five years after being scouted at her father’s sushi restaurant in Mexico City, model Issa Lish has snagged a Vogue Italia cover (shot by famed photographer Steven Meisel, no less), has walked dozens of catwalks from New York to Paris (including Prabal Gurung, Céline, and Prada), and will be in the spring 2015 Marc Jacobs ad campaign alongside Kendall Jenner. Half Japanese, half Mexican, Lish grew up in Mexico City and made her first appearance at fashion week in 2013. For this New York Fashion Week, she will be taking over the Yahoo Beauty Instagram account, giving us all an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look as what it’s really like to be on the catwalk. Here, Lish shares her fashion week survival tips:
The best thing about modeling is… Traveling, meeting new people from all over the world. Having the experience of being a different character each day of your job.
Three things that are always in my bag are… Wallet, phone and keys.My go-to outfit is… Black chiffon shirt and black skinny jeans.
The only shoes I’ll wear are… Converse.
I like to snack on… Pita chips.
The night before fashion week… It’s like any other night it doesn’t change a thing.
In the morning I eat… Grapefruit—it’s very good to have all your vitamins.
My fashion week beauty staple is… Wash my face. You need to take your makeup off before you go to bed.
If I have a minute to work out I… do abs because that’s where I think I need to work.
You’ll catch me reading… Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk.
I’ll unwind by… A long bath or shower and it has to be hot.
My coffee shop order is… iced coffee with skim milk.
The song I’m playing on repeat is… Acid Jazz Singer by Fratellis.
My Instagram filter is… I don’t do Instagram filters.
My favorite part about fashion week is… seeing all the people that I like to hang out with and having funny conversations. I like to have fun on my job.
