Some daughters learn to wear makeup from their mothers—but in the case of Marilyn Manson, Dad learned from his rock star son. Manson covers the new issue of Paper—yes, the magazine that #broketheinternet with Kim Kardashian's nude photos. Inside the issue is a photo of Manson (whose real name is Brian Warner) with his father, Hugh Warner. For the shoot, photographed by Terry Richardson, father and son are both wearing a full face of makeup, from white powder to red lips to smudgy dark eyes. Richardson posted the photo on Instagram on Monday.

A fondness for stage makeup clearly runs in the family, and the interview provides some insight into Manson’s love of cosmetics. “The first time that I did see my dad in makeup was, ironically, the second concert I ever went to,” Manson tells Paper. “He dressed as Gene Simmons and took me to the Kiss ‘Dynasty’ tour when I was 11. And people were asking my dad for his autograph.” Manson tells Paper that he got closer to his father after the death of his mother. Writer Kory Grow adds, “When Manson brings up his dad, he exudes happiness and awe. Lately, the shock rocker has been talking to the elder Warner a lot more, about his service in the military and ‘a lot of things we never talked about before.’”

Manson’s latest album, The Pale Emperor, was released in January of this year and peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200—but the real headliner is that underneath the bold and purposely grotesque makeup, Manson’s a family man.
