Mad Respect for Harry Styles’s Hair Willpower

Harry Styles’s hair just keeps growing.

By Megan Gustashaw

You don’t have to be a Harry Styles watchdog to know that the pop icon is growing out his hair. Chances are you’ve seen his picture at some point in the last 24 months and noticed that the boyish mop that was once his trademark is long gone. It doesn’t make you uncool, it just means you have eyes. So now that we all agree that this is a thing, let’s also take a moment to appreciate the fact that another pervasive grooming trend that you know about even if you don’t “know” about it—the man bun—is somehow not Styles’s go-to. If you’ve ever lived with long hair or with a person who has long hair you probably know that this is a mark incredible willpower and commitment to looking cool.

Long hair is a good look but it can also turn on a dime and become a bad look very easily. It gets in your food, and your partner’s mouth, and your jacket zipper, and flies all over the place when it’s windy. Hence the need for an elastic-band reckoning once in a while. Somehow, in all the months that Styles and his Saint Laurent boots have been bopping around the globe, he has managed to mostly avoid pulling it back. Sure, he had that headband phase, and he’s slicked it back once or twice, but for the most part, he’s stayed strong—grease, split ends, and all.

If that’s not the mark of a true rock star, we don’t know what is.
